President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon congratulated Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on his appointment to the post of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan and recognition as the National Leader of the Turkmen people.

“Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on your appointment as Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan and recognition of you as the National Leader of the Turkmen people,” Rahmon said in a message published in today’s issue of the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

According to the Tajik leader, for many years, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, resolutely defending the sovereignty and independence of Turkmenistan, confidently leads the country along the path of socio-economic development and progress in all spheres of life.

“Under your leadership, fraternal Turkmenistan, following a well-balanced foreign policy of permanent neutrality, has achieved significant success in strengthening its international authority,” Rahmon stressed.

He also noted the personal contribution of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the strengthening and deepening of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, based on the principles of strategic partnership.

“I count on your further active participation in promoting the multifaceted Tajik-Turkmen cooperation, predetermined by a common centuries-old history,” Rahmon said.

At the end of the message, the President of Tajikistan wished Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov good health and great success in his activities in a responsible post, and peace and prosperity to the friendly people of Turkmenistan.

Recall that last month, former President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who served as speaker of the upper house of the Turkmen parliament, proposed abolishing the House of Representatives and reorganizing the legislature into a unicameral parliament. On January 21, the President of Turkmenistan signed laws on amendments and additions to the Constitution on the creation of the highest representative body of people’s power – the Halk Maslakhaty, headed by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, as well as on recognizing him as the National Leader of the Turkmen people.
