“What a rocket!”
Switzerland coach and former Germany international striker Inka Grings is commentating on her fine volley against Mexico at the FIFA Women’s World Cup USA 1999™.
The goal set up a thumping 6-0 victory for the Germans, with the lethal Grings netting a treble. The then 20-year-old set a record in that game which stands to this day – she is the youngest player to score a hat-trick at the Women’s World Cup
In the latest episode of FIFA+’s My Women’s World Cup Memories series, she relives that evening at Portland’s Civic Stadium.
“I rarely enjoy watching myself,” says a beaming Grings. “But these are great memories that allow you to be proud once in a while.”
Grings is now out to make more history with Switzerland at Australia & New Zealand 2023 as she aims to lead the nation beyond the round of 16 for the first time.
