Geneva Airport SWISS Air Rail Stop Debuts in Switzerland

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) have extended the SWISS Air Rail network to bring service to Geneva Airport.

Effective immediately, Geneva Airport will offer connections to and from the Lausanne, Fribourg, and Bern railway stations. The air rail rides can be booked alongside SWISS flights. The SWISS boarding pass qualifies as the train ticket, with an SBB QR code valid on the day the flight arrives in Switzerland at any of the eligible connections.

“This further expansion of our joint SWISS Air Rail network makes it even more attractive for SWISS air travelers arriving in Switzerland to continue their journey by train – comfortably, congestion-free and more seamlessly, too,” says Véronique Stephan, SBB’s head of passenger markets. “Our new direct SWISS Air Rail services from Geneva Airport make Lausanne, Fribourg and Bern a single transfer away from New York.”

SWISS and SBB began partnering to provide air rail service to travelers in 2019. Air rail connections are also available from Zurich Airport to Bellinzona and Lugano, as well as to Bregenz, Austria and Munich, Germany. To travel to the Austria and Germany locations, travelers must book an air rail pass specifically to these stations.

The partnership between SWISS and SBB also means that SWISS passengers will have access to purchase the Swiss Travel Pass on Swiss.com and on the SWISS mobile app. This allows international travelers to book all their transportation at once through SWISS.

“We are working intensively with the SBB to tailor our joint products and services ever more closely to our customers’ mobility needs,” says SWISS Chief Commercial Officer Tamur Goudarzi Pour. “And we’re delighted that, in adding Geneva Airport to our SWISS Air Rail network, we have marked a further milestone in these endeavors which will give our customers in western Switzerland both a broader choice of connections and an even smoother and even more seamless travel experience.”

The Swiss Travel Pass, available for purchase via SWISS, is available as a three-, four-, six-, eight- or 15-day ticket to travel by boat, bus, or train within Switzerland. Regular public transportation tickets will be available via SWISS in 2024.
