The Foreign Minister of Tajikistan, Sirajuddin Mehruddin, said that “Afghanistan is rapidly becoming a safe haven for terrorist groups.”

Talking at the 77th UN General Assembly, Mehruddin said that the participation of Afghanistan in the process of regional cooperation is a key to the success of efforts undertaken by the international community.

“We share 1,400 km border with this country … In the current alarming situation, it is… for Tajikistan to strengthen its border with Afghanistan,” he said.

But the Islamic Emirate pledged that there will be no threat from Afghan soil to any country.

Speaking at the same assembly, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud called for supporting the “delivery of aid to Afghanistan.”

“Afghanistan must not become a base for terrorist operations,” he said.

“The Islamic Emirate has good relations with all neighboring, regional and world countries. As a responsible government, the Islamic Emirate is ruling the country and has repeatedly clarified that the Afghan soil will not be used against anyone,” said Bilal Karimi, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.

“39 million people are living in Afghanistan. The statement that Afghanistan has turned into a safe haven for terrorists is an exaggeration. When these countries attend the international assemblies, they try to attract attention through such warnings. But the truth is that Afghanistan needs economic support,” said Torek Farhadi, a political analyst.

Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov told the UN General Assembly that the “prospects for the development of Central Asia (are) linked with the ensuring peace in Afghanistan.”

“We are concerned about the decline in international attention to (Afghanistan), which is experiencing a deep humanitarian crisis,” he said.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Afghanistan Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, did not speak at the 77th UN General Assembly.
